CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Monterey County — October 25, 2026. Carmel-by-the-Sea is preparing for two community celebrations this week: a Halloween parade on Friday, October 30, followed by the city’s 110th birthday celebration on Saturday, October 31. The city’s official event notice warns drivers of temporary restrictions on Ocean Avenue during the parade.

Friday, October 30: Parade and street access

The city schedules the free Halloween parade for 4:30 p.m. Participants will gather near Mission Street and Sixth Avenue, continue south on Junipero Street, turn onto Ocean Avenue and proceed to Monte Verde Street before looping back. The official notice says cross traffic on Ocean Avenue between Junipero and Monte Verde will stop starting at 4:15 p.m. The closure during the parade is expected to last from approximately 4:30 to 5 p.m., but streets will reopen when officials determine it is safe.

People who park along Ocean Avenue or nearby Sixth and Seventh avenues should plan for possible temporary delays. The city specifically prohibits spectators from standing or sitting on the roadway medians. After the procession, the city lists trick-or-treating in Devendorf Park. Check updated city directions before traveling or parking.

Saturday, October 31: Carmel turns 110

A free birthday celebration is planned at Devendorf Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The announcement mentions live music from The Hovering Breadcat Band, face painting and hot dogs while supplies last. The city invites visitors to bring a picnic blanket or chair; no purchase is stated as necessary for entry.

Library schedules also change on parade day

The city library’s separate notice says Harrison Memorial Library and Park Branch Library will close from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 30 for the parade, with reopening anticipated at 5 p.m. Anyone relying on library services that afternoon should verify current opening times before visiting.

For details, consult the city’s official Halloween and road-closure announcement, its community events calendar, and the library closure notice. These dates are planned; event and traffic-control arrangements can change.
